Are donations to Untold International tax deductible?
Not at the moment, unfortunately. As of August 2016, Untold International has lost its 501(c)(3) status previously held through fiscal sponsorship with the Center for Personal and Relationship Counseling. We are currently working on becoming recognized as our own freestanding nonprofit organization, and will be providing updates as events warrant.
Can I still donate?
Of course! We are always accepting donations; however, until our application is approved for our 501(c)(3) tax ID from the IRS, you will not be able to claim your donations as charitable giving on your taxes. Still, nothing beats generosity in good karma points, right?
How can I donate?
There are a couple different ways:
- Donate through PayPal by clicking the Donate button on our homepage, or on our blog. This will take you to a secure PayPal page where you can donate with any major credit card, or with your PayPal account.
- Donate by mail by sending a check. Please mail all checks to:
ATTN: Untold International
P.O. Box 429
Drake, CO 80515
- **Pending availability** Donate through our online silent auction platform during our week-long events. Check out our Facebook for more information on the next opportunity to get involved in a silent auction event.
Will I receive a receipt?
Yes. We will mail or email you a receipt with donation date, and amount of donation annually. **All donations made prior to August 2016 will retain their tax-deductible status under the Center for Personal and Relationship Counseling.** Also, once we obtain our own status as a freestanding nonprofit organization, we will include our tax information on all receipts.
Will Untold International receive the full donation?
It depends on the method of donation. PayPal takes a small percentage of each donation (but they will never charge the donors). The only way to ensure the full amount reaches Untold International is by mailing a check.
Can I designate where I want my donation to go?
Absolutely! Include a note with your donation, regardless of the method, and we will honor your wishes. Please consider designating your donation for librarian and teacher salaries, as this will be one of our largest expenses.
What will my donation mean?
Here is some context for what your donation will look like in Ghana:
$30 provides 10 new books by African authors.
$50 provides installation or repair of bookshelves.
$100 provides one month’s salary for a librarian.
$400 provides librarian training in Accra through the Osu Children’s Library Fund.
$1000 supports guest speakers from other African countries to speak, read, perform, teach, or tour.
$2000 provides one year’s salary for a literacy instructor in the local language.
$10000 could establish a new literacy center location.
$15000 will sustain the entire project for six months.
$30000 will sustain the entire project for one year.
