We have a new addition to the Untold International family! Our head teacher Mary and her husband Prosper welcomed their first child, Kaitlyn Starr, into the world last year. With their permission, it’s my pleasure to introduce her to you all now.
Kaitlyn Starr Winsomo Kombor was born on February 11th, 2025, weighing in at 3.5 kg (about 7.7 lbs). Her naming ceremony (an Akan tradition when a child is officially given their names) took place on June 1st, 2025. She’s named after the co-founder of Untold International, Kaitlyn Medina, who has inspired and empowered Mary so much over the years. Mary and Prosper chose the name Starr to connote a shining light and positivity. The name Winsomo means “God’s goodness” in Gurene, Mary’s mother tongue, while Kombor is Prosper’s family name (his native language is Dagaare).
Kaitlyn Starr (also called Little Kaitlyn within the organization) has a curious, sweet, and affectionate personality. Like her namesake, she dislikes the heat and prefers cold temperatures, being most comfortable in front of a fan. She’s not fond of men she doesn’t know, and it took her several days to get used to me when I was there in November. Hilariously, she doesn’t like foreign or canned baby food at all—from the moment she was weaned, she wanted to eat local staples like fufu, banku, and kenkey. She likes music, dancing, and being around lots of other kids. Since coming back from maternity leave, Mary has been taking Kaitlyn Starr to work with her. I asked
Mary what it’s been like having Little Kaitlyn around Kasadwini Atenaeɛ, and she said: “It’s been fun! She loves it when the kids come around. She laughs and claps with them and tries to pronounce when they are reading. The amphitheater is her favorite place where she plays with the kids that come around. She always wants to be there. She tries to fix puzzles with them and others.”
Thus, our language arts center has been blessed by yet another daily visitor and part of the family.
Welcome to Untold, Kaitlyn Starr!
